Post Description
NPG Music Club was Prince's online home from 2001 to 2006. It was launched to replace NPGOnlineLtd.com as a further development to the concept of a club where Prince would distribute his music directly to customers.
Its access was limited to subscribers for a $100 admission fee ($25 in the last years of the site) although non-members had access to a retail store. The website environment changed over the years from html colorful pages to a huge white Palace in the middle of gardens.
Without any form of advance notice the NPG Music Club ceased to exist on 4 July 2006, rendering all $25 ‘lifetime’ club memberships void. The only hint of things to come was the fact the club stopped accepting new members since a week or two before closing.
An official statement posted on the site hours before its termination mentioned the club to go “on hiatus until further notice”. All pages of the site were taken down indefinitely midnight of the same day.

The statement posted on the message board by one of the moderators furthermore mentioned the club was ‘an experiment’ and read:
"(...) in its current 4m there is a feeling that the NPGMC gone as far as it can go. (...) The NPG Music Club was a first step; the lessons learned will last 4ever. Now comes a time of great reflection and restructuring. The future holds nothing but endless opportunity and we plan on seizing it wholeheartedly. Don’t u want 2 come?".
